SCUH starts new Acute Leukaemia Service

On September 5th, a significant new service started at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) for patients diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia.
The majority of these patients will now be able to receive their treatment here on the Coast, close to their homes, with supportive family and friends close by.
Lu and I have been involved in 6 education workshops over the past 8 weeks. We shared our experiences, and the challenges patients and families faced when moving away from home for extended treatment periods (in Adem’s case 2 years). We also highlighted the positive impact this new service will have on patients and families when being treated in your own community.
Months of preparation by a dedicated team of hospital staff will ensure that local Acute Leukaemia patients will receive world-class treatment and exceptional care at SCUH.
We would like to thank all staff involved in ensuring this excellent new service was delivered. A special thank you to Alana, Melissa, Lucy and Emma for all your efforts and for inviting Lu and myself to be involved in the Acute Leukaemia education workshops
